Sasha's policeman dad has taken up a remote country posting, and she falls and hits her head on the very first day in Manna Creek.

When their new pet, retired police dog King, starts communicating with her, she puts it down to her concussion.

But more strange things start to happen.

Who is the greasy-haired man she keeps seeing? Why is the local art dealer so nasty? And who killed Mrs Alsopp and set her house on fire? When Sasha 'sees' the burning house in a dream, it's not enough to save the elderly woman.

But the beaten man she sees in the old police cell is already dead - isn't he?

Together, Sasha and King must solve the mysteries in Manna Creek, and save the one person she thought she could rely on.

About The Author

Gary Lonesborough.png

I write both fiction and poetry, for adults, children and young adults.

My most recent crime novel is "Woman, Missing", published by HQ (HarperCollins) in Australia, which features PI Lou Alcott investigating two different missing women. To complicate things, her grandfather is one of Melbourne's biggest crime bosses, which means Lou has a lot to juggle!

My adult crime fiction was, for a long time, mostly short fiction and a couple of unpublished works.

In 2009 I began working on "Trust Me, I'm Dead". In 2018 it was shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger Award, and is now published by Verve Books UK. A sequel, "Dead and Gone" followed in 2020, and "Mad, Bad and Dead" appeared in August 2022. "Trust Me, I'm Dead" is set at the end of Melbourne's gangland wars, in the aftermath when paybacks might set it all off again. Judi, my main character, gets involved when her brother is murdered. In "Dead and Gone", Judi's boss at the pub is murdered and illegal tobacco dealing is at the heart of the conflict. "Mad, Bad and Dead" continues to explore the aftermath of violence, families destroyed and revenge propelling people into deadly actions.

I've also been writing books for young readers for more than 25 years. My first children's book was "The Too-Tight Tutu" which stayed in print for over 20 years.

I have had more than 70 children's and YA books published, including five verse novels.
